Oh Shit!

These drawings I’ve been doing since March 6th, strictly in color using Faber Castell Pitt artist brushes, are designed to be either a daily warm-up or cool-down.

I’ve always thought that the more drawings you do, no matter how small or trivial, the better you get. I’ve never been very good at keeping up with that ideal; I’ve usually been caught under the unnecessary burden of building pictures that take a minimum of 40, 50, 60 hours. That’s just been my way. But I’ve felt a bit more resolute and determined to maintain an artistic exercise that works my hands, off of my Wacom, and lets me churn through the overflow of ideas and symbolic content I can feel in the back of my head. Though only about a dozen drawings in, the psychological gains of “finishing” something within a day have already been helpful in fighting off the consternation that can build during the process of working on longer lasting projects.

This drawing was done over spring break with FCP pens on 11×14″ bristol board while my wife and I was “home” in St. Louis with both of our extended families.
